Learn to Export with DataSmith
DataSmith is 3DsMax plugin for UNREAL ENGINE Export
Here’s how to export from 3Ds Max to UNREAL ENGINE 4 by using DataSmith and Lightmass backing
This one was just a quick test to see How to export 3Ds max scene to UNREAL ENGINE 4 with DataSmith. There’s still a lot of work, but I’m happy with AO and GI quality of those tests.
– I’m gonna work on that scene and bake it super nice with all the objects. The process of backing is quite a time consuming and you need a lot of hardware resources in order to bake this for the entire scene.
My LOFT space is not that big so the backing process can take up to few hours. Larger spaces/entire houses can be up to 8 hours or more.
So stay tuned and make sure to follow for more stuff about LIGHTMASS baking and how to fix light leaks and artifacts.
If you new to unreal engine you can download it free here: www.unrealengine.com
Have you tried DataSmith Already?
You can download it here: https://www.unrealengine.com/en-US/studio/downloads
DataSmith is available for 3Ds max SketchUp and Revit so now the exports can be much easier than before. You can use the same format to export from your 3D software into UE4.

Cheers
P.S.
Should we skip Lightmass and jump straight into VRay NEXT for UNREAL?
